Watch: Getting the Word Out About Your Cause

What would you do with an extra day?ย

Itโ€™s a tantalizing question, isnโ€™t it? And, since 2020 is a leap year, itโ€™s a question youโ€™ll actually get to answer.

For Todd Shimkus, president of the Saratoga County Chamber of Commerce, the reality of an extra day raised another question, what if we used that day to do something kind for someone else?ย

And so, in 2016, Todd and his chamber organized Leap of Kindness Day. A day where you can do something kind for someone else.

But a great idea is nothing without a plan to get the word out. And there lies the real challenge for any of us with a cause.ย

How do you rally people around your cause?ย

Whenever youโ€™re trying to get an idea off the ground, ultimately you have to get those around you to buy-in. People are going to ask, โ€œWhy are we doing this?โ€ In Toddโ€™s case, he had to rally his chamber board and team.

Todd recognized the need to keep the mission simple. As Todd explains, โ€œWe want to showcase Saratoga County as one of the kindest places to live.โ€

With a simple mission his team and community could get behind, it was time to get the word out.ย

Listen in as Todd shares his experience growing Leap of Kindness Day into a global event.

In this 49-minute discussion, Todd shares:

  • How to define and rally people behind your cause
  • How to promote your cause (and make it easy for others to do it for you)
  • How to make adjustments for even more amplification
