February Holidays and Newsletter Ideas — 2022

I can’t believe it’s already time for February Holidays and Newsletter Ideas. I swear I just celebrated the end of 2021.

Now I’m looking to celebrate Valentine’s Day (Feb. 14th)?

I’m not complaining. I’m just in shock at how fast time is flying by these days.

Now that the end-of-year holidays are over and we’re seriously looking into this new year, I can really appreciate what this month is all about  —  giving, having, receiving, sharing, and celebrating love. Love and acceptance of self and each other. Love of food. Love for animals. And even, love and celebration of freedoms.

February holidays — 2022

From Pay a Compliment Day (Feb. 6th) to National Skip the Straw Day (Feb. 25th), this month, which is both Black History Month and American Heart Month, is about loving enough to take care of ourselves and our community  —  no matter how big or small.

  • February 1st – Besides being both the Korean and Chinese New Year, this day is National Freedom Day  —  celebrating Abraham Lincoln’s signing of the 13th Amendment  —  outlawing slavery.
  • February 4th – National Thank a Mail Carrier Day. While we might take them for granted these days, before the advent of the internet, and even the telephone, these folks were the only way we could keep in touch over distances.
  • February 7th – 14th – National Marriage Week. I did mention love, right?
  • February 11th – National Make a Friend Day.
  • February 12th – Abraham Lincoln’s Birthday and National Freedom to Marry Day  —  Love and freedom in one day!
  • February 13th – Galentine’s Day. While really a part of pop culture, few would refuse the women in their lives time to get together and celebrate.
  • February 17th – Random Act of Kindness Day. See what you can do today to make kindness the norm.
  • February 18th – National Caregivers Day. Thank the people who take care of us when we need it most.
  • February 22nd – Be Humble Day. This is a day to promote humility and putting others first. What can you do to put your reader’s needs before your own?
  • February 28th – National Chocolate Souffle Day. Mmmm. Love of food.

February newsletter ideas

As I mentioned above, when looking at all the different holidays this month has to offer, I found that the entire month is really about love. But there are two categories that seem to dominate  —  love of animals and love of food.

Let me show you what I mean.

February newsletter ideas for the love of animals

This month is covered with both monthly and daily “holidays” set aside for our animal friends. From Humpback Whale Month to National Spay Day (Feb. 22nd), this month has a lot of opportunities to love and care for animals.

Responsible Pet Owners Month

Having a pet in your home can do wonderful things for you both physically and psychologically. Pets make great companions, staving off loneliness and depression, and helping us get daily exercise. Having a pet even helps to decrease blood pressure, cholesterol levels, and triglyceride levels.

But pet ownership is also a great responsibility. But you don’t have to run an animal shelter, veterinary practice, or pet supply store, to send out newsletters reminding your readers of responsible pet ownership practices.

  • Share an article written by a pet professional about responsible pet ownership. Just write a little bit about how it ties back to you or your business and then include a link to the article. This can be anything from owning your first pet, the kindergarten class pet, or even why pets aren’t allowed inside your business  —  as long as it ties back to how to be a responsible pet owner.
  • If you’re an expert on the subject, write blog posts about how to be a responsible pet owner and then share an enticing snippet in your newsletter that links back to the full article.
  • Take it to social media by sharing images of your staff, with their pets, practicing good pet ownership. Then ask followers to comment on what good practices they see in the images.

Pet Dental Health Month

You can use any of the above suggestions. Just focus on pet dental health instead of responsible pet ownership. Or, better yet, tie the two together. Include information on best practices and share tips and tricks for how to get your favorite pet to let you brush its teeth.

Spay/Neuter Awareness Month

  • Share stats and information from local shelters and veterinary clinics on the local homeless animal population.
  • Create a fundraiser to help a local clinic offer discounted or free spay/neuter services to those who might not otherwise afford it.

Dog Training Awareness Month

  • Share information or resources for training classes or at-home training videos.
  • Write a blog post  —  or share a link to another  —  that talks about the importance of proper dog training.

National Cat Health Month

Of course, we can’t forget about the cats  —   they’d never forgive us.

  • Cute kitten pictures on Instagram are great but take it further with your newsletter by sharing veterinarian advice on how to properly care for a kitten or adult cat.
  • Tie it into Pet Dental Health Month and share tricks on how to get a cat to let you brush its teeth. And no, I haven’t figured that one out yet, so if you have some good tricks, I’d like to hear them.

National Bird Feeding Month

This is all about the wildlife who are struggling during the winter months to find enough food and water.

  • If you have a shop that carries wild bird food, this is a great time to share a discount or special offer on birdseed, suet, and other wild bird food.
  • Write or share blog articles about wild birds who winter in your area and what they eat during the lean months.
  • Tie it into Feed the Birds Day (Feb. 3rd) and sponsor a community event to feed the wild birds in the local parks and wild spaces.
  • Share homemade bird food recipes.

NOTE: You don’t have to be in the industry to share pet and animal-related awareness. All you need to do is gather information from legitimate sources, share it with proper attribution, and tie it back to yourself, your employees, or your business.

Remember, it’s about community and building relationships. So don’t hesitate to share a heartfelt story about why pets or animals are important to you.

February newsletter ideas for the love of food

This is a great month to share recipes and fun food trivia. Just take a look at what foods this month celebrates!

  • National Snack Food Month
  • National Hot Breakfast Month
  • National Grapefruit Month
  • Great American Pie Month
  • National Bake For Family Fun Month
  • National Cherry Month

And that’s just the “month” designations! If I listed all the days in February that are appointed for specific foods, we’d be here a very long time!

TIP: Whatever holiday you highlight in your newsletter this month, whether you issue a challenge, offer advice, or ask your readers to share, include a branded hashtag and a custom hashtag — along with a corresponding post on social media — so you can easily find and like what they post!
