As the CEO of a growing business (or someone who aspires to be), you may feel (at times) like you have everything figured out. You’ve got a great team, and in-demand product, expanding brand recognition, and the future looks bright.
But if your business grows exponentially, you may end up running into more problems down the line. This happens all the time, but there are ways to mitigate risks. It all starts with pinpointing your inefficiencies.
Lack of Alignment
At times, you may feel as though your team is being pulled in all different directions. It may be that you are all trying to solve problems as individuals, rather than teams. If you recognize this happening, it’s vitally important to take steps to pull everyone together.
It may be that everyone has a perception of your business purpose, but people aren’t on the same page.
If this is the case, then you need to gather your team—away from the daily routine, whether it’s a retreat center or just a local meeting space—and ask what they think your business stands for.
If communication is an issue, consider organizing a professional team building event to improve team dynamics and collaboration.
Ultimately, you have to make sure that your teams have a mechanism that helps them identify critical issues so that you can work through them and get to the bottom of issues as a group. If your team communicates effectively and is aligned, business results will come easier.
Lack of Long-Term Goals
When your business is growing rapidly, it’s easy to focus on short-term priorities at the expense of long-term goals. It’s vital to keep the big picture in mind as you manage the daily challenges of meeting demand.
Again, it’s crucial to make sure your team understands and is aligned with that long-term vision. Help your people understand how they fit in both daily operations and in achieving those longer-term objectives; make sure that people know why their jobs matter.
If you have people who manage your website sales, they need to be updated on your target sale numbers. They also need to be equipped with the right merchant account services and tools they need to succeed.
Lack of Accountability
Who is responsible for what? People work most effectively, and happily, when the have:
- Clear goals and expectations;
- The tools and resources they need;
- The trust of leadership to do the right things.
When everyone owns an issue, no one owns it. When your people have clarity and are empowered, amazing results can happen.
